Parallax:Tal | DISPLAY | Berlin | 2016

Parallax – an apparent displacement of the body caused by a change in the observer’s position – is a phenomenon linked to our own navigation in physical space. It’s also an abstract reflection on our perception and its impact on the objects we turn our attention to. Lucia Kempkes creates large format installations, mostly involving drawing and video, that reflect her observations all the while willingly putting at risk the practice of drawing. She disturbs the medium and its processes to make room for change, accidents and reversals. These constantly evolving pieces are deployed in situ, with as many perspective shifts as the DISPLAY space in Berlin will allow. They disrupt our gaze and take their full meaning in this space also dedicated to exposing transformation.
